Bronx, N.Y. - Just three games into the season, the Fordham Rams have shown that offense is great, but its defense that wins games. The Rams proved that moniker true on Wednesday night, holding Bucknell to just three second half baskets, while forcing 28 total turnovers, as the Rams took down the Bison, 64-42, at the Rose Hill Gym.

With the win, Fordham improves its record to 2-1, while Bucknell falls to 1-1.

"I was so excited about this team tonight. Down at half, we challenged the girls that the only way we get back into this game is to play defense and make it hard for Bucknell. We needed to get in passing lanes and force turnovers, and that actually what they did, which led to offense at the other end," said head coach Cathy Andruzzi in her postgame comments.

The first half was exactly pretty between Fordham and Bucknell, as the score was tied at 12 all after a three-pointer by Fordham's Caitlin Shadbolt, nine minutes into the game. Bucknell responded with six straight points, capped by a Shelby Romine basket to give Bucknell an 18-12 lead.

Fordham's Tiffany Stokes later brought the Rams back even with three consecutive baskets to knot the game at 22 all with 3:29 left. Bucknell however would go into halftime ahead by three on a free throw by Felicia Mgbada and a lay-up by Lindsay Horbatuck.

At the break, Bucknell was 10-of-21 from the field (47.6%), while out rebounding the Rams, 18-15.

The Rams then came out of the break with some great intensity on defense, causing all sorts of havoc for Bucknell.

With the Bison still leading by three, 29-26, with 18:03 remaining, the Rams went on a 13-0 run, capped by a three-point play by Fordham's Abigail Corning, to give Fordham a 39-29 lead.

Fordham never looked back allowing just a couple of free throws over a 15-minute stretch, where Bucknell did not have a basket. The Rams extended the lead to as many as 25, 58-33, following back-to-back three-pointers from Corning and Kyara Weekes and a jumper from Stokes.

Fordham connected for two final three-pointers from Corning and Kristina Bell in the final two minutes to cap off a 22-point win, as the Rams finished the game, shooting 47.2% from the field.

The biggest disparity of the night came in the paint and on turnovers, as Fordham outscored Bucknell, 34-18, in the paint, while netting 37 points off 28 Bucknell turnovers.

For Fordham, nine different Rams found the score sheet. Stokes led all scorers with 18 points and five rebounds, while Corning had a season-high 13 points off the bench on 4-for-4 shooting. Weekes also added eight points and three steals with Stoddart having six points, four steals, four rebounds, and three assists.

The Fordham women's basketball team will next be in action on Saturday, November 20th, when the Rams host the Holy Cross Crusaders at 4:00 PM in the Rose Hill Gym
