Controlling its own destiny, the Fordham volleyball team made sure that there were no doubts about their postseason future, as the Rams swept a three-set match from the Temple Owls at McGonigle Hall in Philadelphia.  Final set scores were 25-22, 25-16, and 25-13.
With the win, Fordham finishes the regular season at 17-17 overall, 7-8 in the Atlantic 10, while Temple ends their season at 4-25 overall, 1-14 in the league.  The win clinches a berth for the Rams at next weekend's Atlantic 10 Championship at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Fordham's win also gives it, the first-ever season sweep of the Owls.
Fordham got out to a strong start in set one, opening up a four-point lead, 7-3, on three early kills from Brittany Daulton.  The Rams led by as many as seven, eventually closing out the set at 25-22 on a kill by Katie Wells.
Set two was all Fordham, as the Rams hit .419 as a team en route to a 25-16 set win.  Daulton had six kills and three digs in the set, with Christi Griffiths adding four kills.
In the third set, Fordham's defense came up big with four blocks, holding the Owls to a .033 hitting percentage, while Griffiths and Wells each had five kills to lead the Rams to the three-set match win.
For Fordham, Daulton led all attackers with a match-high 14 kills and six digs, while Christi Griffiths posted 12 kills, a .500 hitting percentage, two aces, and two blocks.  One of those blocks was a solo block, for which Griffiths is now tied for the school record in career solo blocks at 74 with Melissa Langness (1996-98, 2000).  She already holds the school's career block assists and total blocks records.
Katie Wells added 11 kills for Fordham with Randi Ewing having five kills and eight blocks.  Mary Diamantidis also dished out 39 assists, while Maria Rodenberg had 21digs and two aces.
The Fordham volleyball team will next be in action on Friday, November 19th, as they open up play at the Atlantic 10 Championship at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Fordham will be the fifth seed and face fourth-seeded Duquesne at 7:30 PM.
