A lot went right for the Fordham women's basketball team in their season-opener on Friday at Elon University. Kristina Bell and Arielle Collins both went for career-highs in scoring, the Rams went over the 75-point mark on offense, and Fordham won the rebounding battle. However, Fordham could not overcome a 16-0 run by the Elon Phoenix in the first half, as Elon took the season opener for both schools, 91-77, in game two at the Phoenix Classic.
Elon (1-0) opened the contest with a 13-6 lead, six minutes into the contest, before the Rams (0-1) got rolling offensively, led by junior Becky Peters. Peters drained a three-pointer, a lay-up, and two free throws over a two and a half minute stretch, to put the Rams in front by two, 19-17.

Arielle Collins, leaving the Rams behind by nine, 48-39. The teams exchanged baskets over the next four minutes, leaving Elon ahead 53-43, before a 10-0 spurt by the Phoenix increased the lead to 20 points.
Fordham again worked its way back into the game, behind long distance makes from Kristina Bell, Collins, and Peters, as the Rams cut the deficit back to single digits at 72-63 with 7:36 to go.
The Phoenix however would not let up, as Elon continued to click on offense the rest of the game, shooting over 55% from the field for the game, as they held off the Rams' comeback to take a 91-77 decision.
