Men's Soccer Drops Late Decision to La Salle, 2-1, in A-10 Opener

Philadelphia, Pa. - La Salle's Ryan Richter scored twice, including the game-winning goal with 59 seconds left in regulation, as the Explorers took a 2-1 victory from the Fordham Rams in men's soccer action on Friday night at McCarthy Stadium.

With the loss, Fordham falls to 5-5-0 overall, 0-1 in the Atlantic 10, while La Salle improves to 3-4-2 on the year, 1-0 in the league.

La Salle got on the board first in the sixth minute of play as Glenroy Chapman was taken down in the box on a shot, with the referee awarding a penalty kick to the Explorers. Ryan Richter took the penalty kick, scoring his sixth goal of the season.

Fordham knotted the game at one later in the half in the 36th minute. Tim Richardson got the ball to John McHugh, who took a shot from the far left, and found the back of the net for his first goal of the season.

The scored remained that way until the final minute of regulation. Jason Plumhoff took a late a corner kick for La Salle, which deflected off Mike Stanton to Richter, who finished into the left side of the net for his second goal of the game.

Fordham was unable to find the equalizer in the final 59 seconds, as Ryan Meara made four saves for the Rams in the loss, while La Salle's John McCarthy posted six saves in the win.

The Fordham men's soccer team will next be in action on Friday, October 15th, as the team hosts Duquesne University for an Atlantic 10 match-up at Jack Coffey Field, beginning at 7:00 PM.
