The Fordham volleyball team made it two wins in a row on Friday night, sweeping a three-set match from the Charlotte 49ers at the Rose Hill Gym. Final set scores were 25-23, 25-22, and 25-20.
With the win, Fordham improves to 12-10 on the season, 3-2 in the Atlantic 10, while Charlotte falls to 9-10 overall, 0-4 in the league.
Set one was 13-10 in favor of Charlotte, when Fordham went on a 9-1 spurt, highlighted by a kill and a block by Kailee May, to take a 19-14 lead. Despite a late 7-1 surge by Charlotte, the Rams closed out the set, 25-23 on a kill by Katie Wells.
The second set saw 12 tie scores, the last at 20 all. The Rams then got two kills from Brittany Daulton and a pair of blocks by Christi Griffiths and Wells to earn set point at 24-20. Griffiths closed the set with a kill for the Rams at 25-22.
Set three was again a tightly contested one with 10 tie scores. At 19 all, Fordham scored four straight points to take a 23-19 lead, the last of which on a kill by Wells. Just one play later, Wells and May registered back-to-back kills to earn Fordham the match win.
For Fordham, Wells posted a match-high 11 kills to go with three blocks, while Daulton had 10 kills and four digs. Griffiths posted five kills and five blocks with May adding eight kills and six digs. Mary Diamantidis dished out 36 assists with Maria Rodenberg chipping in 12 digs and one kill at the libero position.
The Fordham volleyball team will next be in action on Saturday, October 9th, when the Rams host Atlantic 10 opponent, George Washington, beginning at 7:00 PM in the Rose Hill Gym.
