Kingston, R.I. - On Friday the Fordham University men's soccer squad made the most of its one goal, holding on for a 1-0 win at UMass, but today it was Rhode Island who scored the game's only goal en route to a 1-0 win over Fordham in a contest between the two Atlantic 10 Rams at the URI Soccer Complex.

With the loss, Fordham falls to 9-7 overall, 4-3 in the Atlantic 10, while Rhode Island improves to 3-11-2, 1-5-1 in the conference.

Rhode Island controlled play early, getting on the board in the 17th minute when Joey Haught dribbled into the box and passed the ball back to Matt Ribbens who beat Fordham keeper Ryan Meara to the lower left corner for his first goal of the year.

Rhode Island kept the pressure on Meara, with Dwayne Williams getting off two shots in the 23rd minute but Meara was able to keep both out of the net.

Fordham got its first scoring chance in the 30th minute when Phil Ferrantello put a shot on net that was saved by Rhode Island keeper Anthony Tavares.

In the second half Fordham put the pressure on Tavares early but he was up to the task, stopping another Ferrantello shot a minute into the half. Fordham also had a chance when John Niyonsaba gathered a loose ball off a corner kick but his shot was blocked in front of the Rhode Island net.

Meara was tested by Rhode Island's Jamie Eckmayer in the 52nd minute and Greg Balicki in the 54th minute but the Fordham keeper made the saves to keep it a 1-0 game.

Fordham poured on the offense in the final ten minutes, getting off three shots, but Fordham was unable to put one by Tavares.

Meara finished with four saves in the Fordham net as did Tavares for Rhode Island.

Fordham will next be in action on Friday, November 5th as they host the University of Dayton in an Atlantic 10 match on Jack Coffey Field at 7:00 p.m.
