Volleyball Sweeps La Salle, 3-0

Philadelphia, Pa. - After a five set loss to Rhode Island on Friday night the Fordham University volleyball squad was eager to get back on the court and get back to their winning ways. And it didn't take long to accomplish both, as the Rams defeated La Salle University in three sets today in Tom Gola Arena. Scores of the sets were 25-15, 25-17 and 25-18.

With the win, Fordham raises its record to 15-14 overall, 5-5 in the Atlantic 10, while La Salle falls to 4-23 overall, 0-11 in the conference.

Fordham turned in a strong game both offensively and defensively, hitting .302 in the match while holding La Salle to a -.018 hitting percentage. The Rams also recorded four solo blocks and ten block assists in the game.

The Rams jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the first set and built the lead to 12-6 before scoring five straight points to take a commanding 17-6 lead and went on to the 25-15 win. Christi Griffiths paved the way for the Rams with three kills in the set.

In set two, the set was tied at four when Fordham scored four of the next five points, two off Griffiths kills, to take a 9-5 lead. The Explores cut the Fordham lead back to two, 10-8, but the Rams responded by scoring nine of the next eleven points to build the lead to nine, 19-10, and Fordham went on to the 25-17 win.

The third set was tied at two when Fordham scored four of the next five points to take a 7-3 lead on a Kailee May kill. The Explorers cut the Fordham lead back to one, 9-8, but the Rams scored five straight points, two on May kills, to take a 14-8 lead. Two La Salle points made it a 14-10 game and the Explorers would trail by for again later in the match, 18-14, but Fordham scored four of the next five points to go up 22-15 en route to the 25-18 win to close out the game.

Griffiths led the Rams with ten kills in the game, hitting at a .533 clip, while also adding one block solo and three block assists, and May finished with nine kills, hitting .381, and Mary Diamantidis compiled 30 assists and ten digs.

The Rams will next be in action on Friday, November 5th as they travel to Washington, D.C. to face George Washington in an Atlantic 10 match at 7:00 p.m.
