Bronx, N.Y. - In a game that cleared up some of the Atlantic 10 Championship puzzle, UMass' Deanna Colarossi scored the only goal of the contest in the 18th minute, as the Minutewomen posted a 1-0 victory over the Fordham Rams at Jack Coffey Field on Friday.

With the loss, Fordham falls to 7-10-1 overall, 3-4-1 in the Atlantic 10, while Massachusetts improved to 8-9-0 on the year, 5-3 in the league, clinching a berth at the Atlantic 10 Championship. Fordham is still in contention for the final spot at the Championship, as they are tied with La Salle, Richmond, and Rhode Island at 10 points with George Washington and Saint Louis also still in the mix with nine points.

Dayton, Charlotte, Duquesne, and St. Bonaventure have also clinched spots in the Atlantic 10 Championship with Massachusetts. The tournament takes place November 4-7 at Rhode Island.

The Minutewomen netted the only goal of the game on their first shot of the evening as Jess Howe got the ball forward to Deanna Colarossi. Colarossi then floated a shot toward the top left corner of the Fordham goal. Fordham goalkeeper Sarah Zieman got a diving hand on it, but the ball still had enough momentum to go over the line for Colarossi's ninth goal of the season.

Fordham desperately tried to find the equalizer, as the Rams had a 17-4 shot advantage, including seven shots from Michelle Ancelj. Nearing the end of the first half, Mary Solimine saw a ball bounce to her over the Minutewomen defenders, but her chip shot passed just wide of the goal.

The Rams' best chances in the second half were on an Ancelj shot that just went wide of the right post with 14 minutes remaining, as well as shots from Lauren Nowakowski and another Ancelj opportunity that just cleared the crossbar in the waning minutes.

In net, Massachusetts' Emily Cota had five saves in the shutout, while Zieman had one save for Fordham.

The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Sunday, October 31st, as it hosts the University of Rhode Island for an Atlantic 10 match-up, beginning at 1:00 PM on Jack Coffey Field.
