In a game that started early, Richmond managed to score early and then hang on as the Spiders shut out Fordham, 1-0, in an Atlantic 10 match at Ukrop Park.
With the loss, which snaps a three-game Fordham winning streak, the Rams fall to 8-6 overall, 3-2 in the Atlantic 10, while Richmond improves to 4-9-1 overall, 3-2 in the conference.
The game started at the unusual time of 10:00 AM and the Spiders took advantage of the early start, scoring in the 13th minute when Houston Oldham sent a cross from the right side into the box and Spencer Schiff was able to head it past Fordham keeper Ryan Meara.
Richmond almost made it a 2-0 game eight minutes later but Meara was able to make the save on a shot from Brendon Cristobal.
The Rams had their first scoring chance in the 26th minute when Michael Stalker got off a shot that was saved by Richmond keeper Brock Tomlinson.
In the second half, the Rams recorded eleven shots but only put two on net, the first coming early in the half off the foot of Andre Seidenthal and the second late in the half from Julian Nagel but Tomlinson was able to keep both out of the net.
The Rams outshot the Spiders 17-10 in the game but were only able to put the three on net. Meara finished with three saves for the Rams.
The Rams will next be in action on Friday, October 29th, as they travel to Amherst, Mass., to face the University of Massachusetts in an Atlantic 10 match at 2:30 p.m.
