Behind 13 kills by Brittany Daulton and a season-high nine blocks by Randi Ewing, the Fordham volleyball team posted a five-set win over the Rhode Island Rams in an Atlantic 10 match-up in Kingston, Rhode Island. Final set scores were 25-15, 23-25, 16-25, 25-19, and 15-12.
With the win, Fordham evens its record at 14-14 on the year, 4-5 in the Atlantic 10, while Rhode Island falls to 11-11 overall, 2-7 in the league.
After Fordham took the first set by ten points, Fordham was ahead 22-21 in the second set before a service error tied the score at 22 all. Rhode Island took advantage of that mistake scoring three of the next four points to even the match at one set apiece.
Set three was all Rhode Island as they hit .355 as a team, led by five kills from Kayla Wilson.
Fordham would rally though in set four behind Ewing, who posted two kills and three blocks in the set, as the Rams held Rhode Island to a -.027 hitting percentage, forcing a fifth set.
Fordham then took control of the match in the deciding set, hitting .571 as a group, behind Daulton and Katie Wells' seven combined kills, while Ewing closed out the match with a kill.
For Fordham, Daulton had 13 kills and nine digs, while Wells added 12 kills and two blocks. Ewing set season-highs with nine kills and nine blocks with Kailee May adding 10 kills, four digs, and two aces. Mary Diamantidis dished out 40 assists to go with five digs, while Maria Rodenberg and Emily Atwood had 15 and 13 digs, respectively.
The Fordham volleyball team will next be in action on Friday, October 29th, when the Rams have their second straight match against the University of Rhode Island, beginning at 7:00 PM at home in the Rose Hill Gym.
