Volleyball Falls to 20th-Ranked Dayton

Dayton, Ohio - The 20th-ranked Dayton Flyers put together a strong offensive attack on Saturday night, hitting .425 as a team, which led to a sweep of the Fordham Rams at the Frericks Center in Dayton, Ohio. Final set scores 25-15, 25-15, and 25-17.

With the loss, Fordham evens its record at 10-10 overall, 2-2 in the Atlantic 10, while Dayton improves to 13-3 overall, 4-0 in the league.

In the opening set with the score knotted at six, Dayton went on a 6-1 run to open up a 12-7 lead. The Flyers ballooned that lead to as many as 12 in the set, eventually ending at 25-15 on Lindsey Fletemier's fourth kill of the match.

Set two saw the Flyers begin with an 11-4 spurt, as Becky Novacek had a kill and two blocks in that stretch. The Flyers earned set point at 24-12 with Fordham fighting off three set points on kills from Katie Wells, Brittany Daulton, and Christi Griffiths, but Dayton finally finished the set on a kill from Rachel Krabacher.

The third set saw 15 tie scores with the last at 15 all, before Dayton closed out the match with a 10-2 run and a 25-17 set win.

For Fordham, Daulton led the way with eight kills and three digs, while Wells had seven kills and three digs. Randi Ewing chipped in six kills and three blocks with Mary Diamantidis dishing out 29 assists and five digs.

The Fordham volleyball team will next be in action on Wednesday, October 6th, when the Rams begin a four-match homestand against the Hofstra Pride, beginning at 7:00 PM.
