Three straight goals by the St. Bonaventure Bonnies was too much for the Fordham Rams to come back from, as the Bonnies took a 4-2 decision from the Rams in women's soccer action on Sunday in St. Bonaventure, N.Y.
With the loss, Fordham falls to 5-9-1 overall, 1-3-1 in the Atlantic 10, while St. Bonaventure improves to 8-7 on the year, 2-3 in league play.
The Bonnies got on the board just 2:25 into the game, as Hannah Lapp scored on a hard shot from the corner of the six-yard box, her second of the season.
Fordham looked for the equalizer in the first half, but St. Bonaventure goalkeeper Nicole Markhert made five saves in the period to keep the score at 1-0, going into halftime.
In the opening ten minutes of the second half, an offensive explosion began with four goals being scored, two by each team. St. Bonaventure made it 2-0 on Anna Cunningham's eighth goal of the season on a one-touch pass through the top of the box in the 49th minute.
Just 4:21 later, the Bonnies netted their third goal of the afternoon, as Courtney Bosse scored her fourth of the year, finishing just inside the far post.
Fordham then stormed back with two goals in a span of 1:27 to bring the Rams within a 3-2 margin. Danielle Ingram got Fordham on the board at the 53:41 mark, as she scored her second of the season off a cross from Annie Worden.
Over a minute later, the Rams received a penalty kick, following a St. Bonaventure handball in the box. Mariella Romano buried the penalty kick into the goal for her second tally of the season, making it a one-goal game.
The Rams almost tied the game at the 65:00 mark, as Michaela Murphy fired a shot toward goal, but the ball hit the crossbar, keeping St. Bonaventure ahead by one.
The Bonnies then added an insurance goal shortly after that shot on a goal by Nicole Rosso, her first of the year.
The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Friday, October 22nd, as it hosts George Washington University for an Atlantic 10 match-up, beginning at 7:00 PM.
