Women's Soccer Downed By Dayton

Dayton, Ohio - The Dayton Flyers notched three first half goals, including two in the first ten minutes of the game, as they opened Atlantic 10 play with a 4-0 decision over the Fordham Rams at Baujan Field in Dayton, Ohio.

With the loss, Fordham falls to 4-7-0 on the year, 0-1 in the Atlantic 10, while Dayton improved to 9-2 overall, 1-0 in the league.

Dayton wasted little time getting the lead, as Jerica DeWolfe scored her third goal of the season, just 1:42 into the contest off an assist from Kelly Blumenschein.

Blumenschein quickly made it 2-0, eight minutes later, as she took a through pass from Juliana Libertin, and dribbled around Fordham goalkeeper Rachel Suther's challenge to net her second goal of the season.

Fordham tried to answer back on a shot from Michelle Ancelj from the top of the box in the 26th minute, but the shot was stopped by Dayton keeper Lisa Rodgers.

The Flyers later went ahead 3-0 on Colleen Williams' ninth goal of the season in the 35th minute, as another pass was able to get through the Fordham defense to a streaking Dayton player, who dribbled around Suther, posting the third goal of the half.

Dayton closed out the scoring in the 78th minute as Alexis Garcia scored her second of the year on an assist from Josie Grant.

In net, Suther and Sarah Zieman each played 45 minutes for Fordham with Suther having one save in the first half, while Zieman had three in the second half.

The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Sunday, October 3rd, when the Rams play at Xavier, beginning at 1:00 PM.
