Women's Basketball Falls To St. Bonaventure, 60-36

St. Bonaventure, N.Y. - It was a tale of two halves in the women's basketball contest between Fordham and St. Bonaventure at the Reilly Center. Fordham held St. Bonaventure to one three-pointer in the first half, and trailed by single digits at the half, but the second half saw seven three-pointers by the Bonnies, five of those by Jessica Jenkins, leading them with a 60-36 win over the Rams.

With the loss, Fordham falls to 7-14 overall, 1-5 in the Atlantic 10, while St. Bonaventure improved to 15-6 overall, 3-3 in conference play.

Neither squad got off to a great start, as St. Bonaventure led just 8-4, eight minutes into the opening half. Fordham closed within three, 14-11, following a three-pointer by Becky Peters and a circus shot lay-up by Arielle Collins. St. Bonaventure however closed out the half with 12 of the next 17 points, highlighted by a Jessica Jenkins three-pointer, to take a 25-16 lead into the break.

At the break, both squads struggled from the field, as Fordham shot 30% from the field, while the Bonnies were just 1-for-10 from three-point range.

St. Bonaventure then began to hit from long range at the start of the second half. Jenkins connected for four three-pointers over the first 4:32 of the period, extending the Bonnies' lead to 40-21. Fordham began to cut into the St. Bonaventure lead behind six straight points from Tiffany Stokes and a three-pointer by Kyara Weekes.

Jenkins though responded with her sixth three-pointer of the game to give St. Bonaventure a 47-30 lead with 10:30 remaining. In the second half, the Bonnies shot 7-of-10 from three-point range in the second half, which carried them to a 24-point win, 60-36.

For Fordham, Weekes scored a team-high 14 points, while Stokes added six points, five rebounds, and three blocks. Kristina Bell also added five rebounds, three assists, and three points.

St. Bonaventure had three players in double figures, led by Jenkins' 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting from three-point range.

The Fordham women's basketball team will next be in action on Saturday, January 30th, when they host La Salle at 1:00 PM in the Rose Hill Gym.
