Kristina Bell then knocked down a three-pointer followed by a Peters bucket, giving Fordham their first lead of the game, 19-18, with 6:05 left in the opening frame.
After Rhode Island regained the lead, Tyonna Willingham and Arielle Collins closed out the half with back-to-back three-pointers to give Fordham a 24-21 lead at the break.
The game stayed within a couple of points over the first seven minutes of the second half, before Hurst scored on a lay-up and Tiffany Stokes knocked down two free throws, giving Fordham their largest lead of the game at six, 41-35.
Rhode Island closed back within three, but Hurst and Stokes combined for six straight points, as Fordham opened up a nine-point edge, 47-38, with three minutes remaining. URI gave it one more shot as they pulled within four, 49-45, but Charlotte Stoddart knocked down a three-pointer late for Fordham, which sealed the victory.
For Fordham, Stokes scored 10 of her 12 points in the second half to go with seven rebounds, with Hurst also adding 12 points and nine rebounds. Stoddart dished out a season-high five assists in the game, as Fordham piled up 16 assists in the contest, while Kristina Bell, Caitlin Shadbolt, and Peters each had six points.
