Bronx, N.Y. - Three Charlotte players scored in double figures, while the team shot close to 50% from the field, as the 49ers topped Fordham, 69-34, on Rams School Day at the Rose Hill Gym.

With the loss, Fordham goes to 6-13 overall, 0-4 in the Atlantic 10, while Charlotte moved to 10-8 overall, 3-1 in league play.

With close to 1,000 school children in attendance, the Rams had plenty of support early on as Fordham trailed just 9-7, following a three-pointer from Charlotte Stoddart.

Still trailing by three after two free throws by Kristina Bell, the 49ers put together a 15-1 run to take a 27-10 lead with 7:06 remaining in the first half. Charlotte finished out the half with a 16-point lead, 36-20, primarily taking advantage of 16 first half turnovers by Fordham, leading to 15 points.

The 49ers then had their defense take center stage, holding the Rams to just 14 points in the second half, as Charlotte bellied their lead to as many as 37 in the period.

The two biggest differences by game's end was rebounding and points in the paint. Charlotte outrebounded Fordham, 42-20, in the game, as well as outscoring the Rams in the paint, 34-6.

For Fordham, Becky Peters and Stoddart each had eight points with Peters adding four rebounds. Randall Hurst added six points and four rebounds off the bench.

The Fordham women's basketball team will next be in action on Saturday, January 23rd, when they host the University of Rhode Island in the second half of a basketball doubleheader at the Rose Hill Gym. Game time is set for 4:00 PM.
