Women's Basketball Drops A-10 Contest at Temple

Philadelphia, Pa. - Trying to breakthrough with their first win in Atlantic 10 play on Wednesday night, the Fordham Rams ran into a hot shooting night by Temple, which saw 11 made three-pointers by the Owls en route to a 67-34 win at McGonigle Hall in Philadelphia.

With the loss, Fordham falls to 6-11 overall, 0-2 in the Atlantic 10, while Temple improved to 11-5 overall, 1-1 in league play.

Temple grabbed the early lead in the first half, 15-9, as B.J. Williams, Kristen McCarthy, and Marli Bennett each connected from long range for the Owls. The Rams closed within two, 15-13, as Kyara Weekes found Charlotte Stoddart for a backdoor lay-up with nine minutes remaining in the opening stanza.

The Owls however continued to hit from long range as Williams hit two more threes to give Temple a 26-16 edge with 3:49 left. In all, Temple connected on seven three-pointers in the half, building up a 31-18 halftime lead.

Fordham cut the deficit to 39-27 at the start of the second half, highlighted by a three-pointer from Arielle Collins. The Rams continued to work their way back on two free throws by Kristina Bell, leaving Fordham down ten, 39-29.

Temple however would go on a 15-0 run over a 7:29 stretch to take a 54-29 lead with 7:07 remaining, which would be the difference. In that time, Temple's Natasha Thames had six of those 15 points, while Qwedia Wallace hit her fifth three-pointer of the game.

For Fordham, Randall Hurst led the way with 10 points and 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season, while Becky Peters added seven points. Collins also chipped in a season-high six points, hitting a pair of three-pointers.

The Fordham women's basketball team will next be in action on Sunday, January 17th, when they host Duquesne University at noon. The game will be nationally televised on CBS College Sports Television.
