Bronx, N.Y. - In a women's soccer game that featured only 12 shots, everything came down to one break between Syracuse and Fordham. Unfortunately for the Rams that break went Syracuse's way, as Tina Romagnuolo scored the lone goal of the game, giving the Orange a 1-0 decision over the Rams on Jack Coffey Field.

Fordham (0-3-1) had the first chance of the game in the third minute on a Michelle Ancelj shot that sailed just over the crossbar.

Syracuse (1-2-1) then picked up back-to-back chances by Jenna Rickan and Tessa MacDougall, but Fordham's Rachel Suther made two diving stops to keep the game scoreless.

The Rams again came close to the first goal in the 42nd minute, as Kelsey Walker let a shot rip from the right side with Eliza Bennett-Hattan making the stop for Syracuse. The rebound though came out toward the top of the penalty area toward a Fordham player, but a Syracuse defender would clear the ball out of danger.

Fordham continued the pressure at the start of the second half, as Annie Worden got loose for a shot, but was blocked away by a Syracuse defender.

In the 60th minute, Fordham had a golden opportunity off the foot of Katie McDermott, but the shot rang off the right post. Worden then got the rebound shot off, but Bennett-Hattan made the stop to keep the game scoreless.

Syracuse then broke the tie in the 77th minute, as Laura Jackson cleared a Fordham attack to midfield, where Tina Romagnuolo was able to get loose for a breakaway, beating Suther from 20 yards out, as she came out of the net to challenge the shot.

Fordham tried to get the equalizer late as a handball was called on Syracuse in the waning seconds, but the Rams would come up short as time expired.

In net, Bennett-Hattan made three saves in the shutout, while Suther had a pair of saves.

The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Sunday, September 6th, as they play at Seton Hall, beginning at 1:00 PM.
