After two losses last Saturday, the Fordham volleyball team bounced back with a vengeance on Friday night at the St. John's Tournament. The Rams swept their opening match against Quinnipiac by scores of 25-14, 25-18, and 26-24.
With the win, Fordham evens its record at 2-2, while Quinnipiac is now 0-1.
Fordham hit an amazing .360 as a team, with five different players having at least five kills. In all, the Rams made just eight errors on the night, while also connecting for seven aces.
Fordham took the lead from the start in set one, and never relinquished it, as they hit .371 as a team, led by four kills from Jenna Hart and three by Katie Wells.
The Rams' defense led the way in the second set, as they went on to a seven-point win. Kailee May had six of her team-high 12 digs in the set to go with three kills, while Megan Arend had four of her 11 digs in that set.
The third set was back and forth, as Quinnipiac look to extend the match, as they led 24-22 with serve. Fordham however came up with a Wells' kill followed by back-to-back kills by May to give the Rams a 25-24 lead. Fordham then ended the match with a Hart/Wells block, giving the Rams the three-set sweep.
For Fordham, May finished with nine kills and 12 digs, while Wells had eight kills and two blocks. Katherine Burrell continued her steady play at setter with 32 assists and five kills with Hart adding eight kills and a pair of aces.
The Fordham volleyball team will continue play at the St. John's Tournament on Saturday, as they have a re-match with Boston College at 9:00 AM, as well as a 3:00 PM match against host St. John's.
