New York, N.Y. - The men's soccer match up between Fordham and Columbia went to two overtimes and a winner could still not be decided as sophomore Tim Richardson's goal early on in the match helped the Rams maintain a 1-1 tie with the Lions.
Fordham's record now stands at 2-5-1 while Columbia moves to 2-4-1.
Freshman Marcus Axelsson set up the scoring play eight minutes into the game by heading the ball over to Richardson who needed only one dribble to find a hole and burry the ball into the back of the net for his first goal of the season.
The Lions attempts to tie the game in the first half were a plenty with Nick Scott registering three straight Columbia shots, though his only strike on net was stopped by sophomore goalie Ryan Meara.
Columbia finally got the goal back in the second half with James Prince going one-on-one with Meara in the 58th minute, resulting in Prince's second goal of the season. After that goal, Meara was a wall, stopping both balls coming his way to force the game into overtime.
In the first overtime, both teams had a shot at a game winner. Fordham's chance was on sophomore John Niyonsaba's shot halfway through the first OT, but was snagged by Columbia keeper Alexander Aurrichio. Meara too was tested with just over a minute remaining in the first OT but was able to keep the ball from going in.
Neither team could get a shot on net in the second overtime though the Rams' defense was able to stop two corner kicks in the period.
Next up for Fordham is a road game at the University of Massachusetts set for a 1:00 PM start on Saturday, October 3.
