Bronx, N.Y. - Freshman Marcus Axelsson's first collegiate goal was not enough to give the men's soccer team a third straight win as the Rams fell to the hands of the Central Connecticut Blue Devils 2-1 at Jack Coffey Field.

With the loss, Fordham falls to 2-5 while Central Connecticut improves to 4-2.

Neither team was able to put one into the net in the first half of play, though both the Rams and the Blue Devils had their chances. Fordham edged out Central Connecticut 5-4 for shots in the half with sophomore Aaron Markowitz's shot in the 11th minute being the only test for Blue Devils keeper Anthony Occhialini.

Fordham goalie Ryan Meara had a hectic minute and a half midway through the first with his two diving stops keeping the game scoreless.

Central Connecticut broke the deadlock just under ten minutes in to the second half when Eduardo Ortiz took a Mersad Sahanic pass on the left side and put it into the top right corner for the 1-0 lead.

The Rams answered back in the 63rd minute set up by Sam Jolly's corner kick that bounced around the pack until Axelsson was able to get a head on it and passed Occhialini for the score.

It took the Blue Devils less than five minutes to go back on top when Shawn Buchanan buried a shot into the lower right corner of the Rams' net.

Fordham pressed on the entire half, including a header by freshman Veer Lakhan-Joseph that took Occhialini out of position on a corner kick, but a Blue Devils defender was in the right place at the right time to boot the ball out of harms way.

Both Meara and Occhialini ended the match with three saves a piece.

The Rams hit the road for the next four games, starting with a match close to home as they take on Columbia on Tuesday, September 29 at 7:00 PM.
