The first win over a nationally ranked opponent will have to wait for another day, as the Fordham volleyball team fell to 23rd ranked Saint Louis on Saturday at the Rose Hill Gym. Final set scores were 25-14, 25-15, and 25-23.
With the loss, Fordham goes to 8-9 overall, 0-2 in Atlantic 10, while Saint Louis improves to 9-5 overall, 2-0 in the league.
The Billikens stormed out of the gate to take the first two sets, hitting .438 and .462 respectively in the first two sets.
Fordham tried to rally in the third set, down six, 20-14. The Rams put together a 6-0 run to tie the set at 20, capped by a service ace by Sara Friede. Unfortunately that was as close as Fordham would get as Megan Boken closed out the set with a kill, eight points later to give the Billikens the match, 25-23.
For Fordham, Kailee May finished with a team-high 11 kills, while Friede had six kills and 11 digs. Katie Wells also had six kills with Megan Arend having 12 digs defensively.
The Fordham volleyball team will next be in action on Tuesday, September 29th, as they play at Hofstra, beginning at 7:00 PM.
