Water Polo Posts 3-1 Record Through Day Two at ECAC Championship

Princeton, N.J. - The Fordham water polo has a 3-1 record through the first two days of the ECAC Championship, held at Princeton University's DeNunzio Pool. The seventh seeded Rams will have one more match at the championship as they meet Bucknell in the 5th place game on Sunday.

In the team's opening match on Friday night, Fordham jumped out to a 7-1 halftime lead and closed out a 17-4 win over Connecticut College.

Mikey Edwards was dominant with seven goals for the Rams, followed by two each by Ali Arat and Victor Bautista Medina. Jake Bakas, Daniel Muñoz, Jakob Muller, Andrew Dentinger, Scott Nemecek, and Mark Connor also scored for Fordham. In net, Christian Flessner made ten stops.

On Saturday, Fordham started the day with a match-up against 20th-ranked Princeton. The Rams put up a strong fight, behind just two goals at the half, 6-4, but eventually fell to the host Tigers, 13-9.

Arat led the Fordham attack with three goals, while Edwards netted two. Ryan Hultman, J.D. Shrewsbury, Muñoz, and Daniel Barron closed out the scoring for Fordham, while Flessner made 10 saves in net.

In their second match Saturday, Fordham topped Harvard for the second straight weekend by a score of 8-4.

Leading by one, 4-3, at the break, the Rams' defense held the Crimson to just one goal in the second half. Edwards was again the scoring star with three goals for Fordham, with Flessner making nine saves in goal. Tim Simo, Muñoz, Martin de Jong, Muller and Arat also scored for Fordham.

Finally, the Rams met MIT to close out Saturday's action and picked up a 10-4 victory over the Engineers.

After a low scoring first half, Fordham tallied seven goals in the second half to pull away for their third win of the tournament. Flessner made a career-high 13 saves in net, while Edwards scored four times to lead Fordham. Arat and Nemecek each netted two goals with Muller and Shrewsbury rounding out the scorers.

The Rams will conclude play at the ECAC Championship on Sunday, September 20th, as they meet Bucknell at 12:30 PM in the fifth place game.
