| Fordham vs. Sacred Heart Highlights
Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham Volleyball team remains undefeated in the Rose Hill Classic after besting the Pioneers of Sacred Heart University in four sets on Saturday afternoon in the Bronx. Set scores were 25-20, 25-16, 21-25 and 25-20, respectively.
After going back and forth with the Pioneers for much of the first set, Fordham broke away with the help of some stellar service by sophomore Brittany Daulton. The Indianapolis native recorded one of her two service aces during a run in which the Rams increased their lead to seven points.
The second set proved to be even more impressive for the Rams, applying pressure early and often en route to a 25-16 set victory. Junior outside hitter Sara Friede continued her remarkable play so far in the Rose Hill Classic, recording five kills in the second set alone.
The Rams' hopes of a straight set victory ended early in the third set as Sacred Heart came out firing, pulling out to a 6-1 lead before Fordham was forced to call a timeout. The Pioneers never relinquished their lead in the third, despite a late run in which the Rams cut the deficit to three at 24-21.
The two teams traded blows early in the fourth set as the crowd saw four lead changes and eight tie scores before either of the teams reached ten points. Fordham slowly began to pull away, however, and went on to win the set on the shoulders of Sara Friede who tallied five kills in the set.
On the match, Friede recorded a game high 16 kills, while sophomore Kim Capicotto pitched in with a game high 35 assists. Fordham closes out the Rose Hill Classic tonight as 7:00 pm as they host the Blue Devils of Central Connecticut State University in the Rose Hill Gymnasium.
Manhattan vs. Sacred Heart

It was Manhattan's blocking game that helped give them the win over Sacred Heart with the Jaspers out-blocking the Pioneers 12-3.5 in the match as both teams kicked off the second day of competition of the Rose Hill Classic. Set scores were 25-18, 25-16 and 25-18, respectively.
Manhattan maintained at least a three-point lead in the first set until they marched on to set point with a 5-2 run over Sacred Heart to bring the score to 23-16. Jaci Rahey recorded the final two kills to push the Jaspers over the edge for the first set of the match.
It was a one sided affair in the beginning of the second set with Manhattan taking a comfortable 10-4 lead thanks to five Sacred Heart attack errors in the stretch. Things did not get much better for the Pioneers as the Jaspers cruised to a 25-16 set win.
Sacred Heart showed signs of life in the third set, keeping with Manhattan throughout the entire set and even taking a 14-12 lead. Not wanting to send the game into a fourth set, the Manhattan offense regained control of the set with Rita Welsh and Diane Strunter putting down two kills each to help Manhattan take the third and final set, 25-18.
Manhattan's Jaci Rahey lead all scorers with 12 kills in the match while Jamie Collareta had a match-high 29 assists. Sacred Heart's Johanna Ovsenek led the Pioneers with 9 kills.
Seton Hall vs. Central Connecticut State

The Blue Devils of Central Connecticut State University won a hard-fought, five set match this afternoon over the Seton Hall Pirates in the sixth game of the Ninth Annual Rose Hill Classic. Set scores were 17-25, 25-15, 26-24, 23-25 and 15-9, respectively.
Senior Jamie Baumert led the way for the Blue Devils with 15 kills on 26 total attacks, hitting an astounding .462 on the match. Amanda Bayer and Kaitlin Petrella also proved vital to the CCSU winning effort, tallying 43 assists and 20 digs, respectively.
For the Pirates, Sarah Osmun and Morgan Devries each reach double digits in the kill column, while freshman setter Olivia Trudeau continued her impressive play, recording a game high 45 assists.
Seton Hall vs. Manhattan

Seton Hall closed out their stint at the Rose Hill Classic sweeping Manhattan in straight sets for their second win in the tournament. The set scores were 25-12, 25-18, 25-13, respectively.
The Pirates won handedly in the first set after five straight attack errors aided a Seton Hall run that gave them a 13-3 advantage. Both teams traded points from here, but the Jaspers could not put together a strong enough run to bring down the Pirates.
The second set was the closest played between the two teams, but unfortunately for Manhattan the results was just the same as the first set. The third set was almost a mirror image of the first with Seton Hall benefiting from a number of Manhattan attacking errors with the Pirates closing out the match with a 25-13 set win.
Meghan Matusiak, Krissy Wrobel and Sarah Osmun each had nine kills for Seton Hall while Olivia Trudeau had 32 assists. The scoring was spread pretty evenly throughout the Manhattan roster with Jaci Rahey topping them all with four kills.
Central Connecticut State vs. Fordham

Fordham's Kailee May capped off a tournament MVP performance with 14 kills and 17 digs, while Sara Friede and Kim Capicotto each had double-doubles, as the Rams topped Central Connecticut State in four sets to win the 9th Annual Rose Hill Classic at the Rose Hill Gym. Final set scores were 25-19, 18-25, 25-20, and 25-17.
This is the second time Fordham has captured the tournament title, with the other in 2004. The Rams improve to 7-4 overall, and have won their last five matches.
With the match tied at one set apiece, the Rams jumped out to a 13-6 lead in set three behind three kills from Christi Griffiths. CCSU closed to within three points at 23-20, but could not catch the Rams as Brittany Daulton recorded a service ace to close out the set, 25-20.
Set four was also tight with the score knotted at 13, but the Rams would score six of the next seven points to take control at 19-14. The Rams eventually closed out the match, 25-17, with the final point coming on the team's seventh ace of the match, this time by Griffiths.
Fordham's Kailee May was selected as the tournament MVP, joining Tiffany Pedersen (2004) as the only Rams to capture the honor. Sara Friede netted 13 kills and 11 digs for her third double-double of the tournament, which earned her All-Tournament honors. Kim Capicotto also received All-Tournament accolades, as she recorded 43 assists and 10 digs in the finale.
The Rams will return to action on Tuesday, September 15th, as they play at Fairfield University, beginning at 7:00 PM.
