Kingston, R.I. - With the help of the bat of Ryan McCrann and the outstanding performance on the hill by J.P. Mack, the Fordham baseball team defeated the University of Rhode Island, 6-4.

Fordham improves to 16-27 (10-9 Atlantic 10) while Rhode Island falls to 30-15-1 (15-3 Atlantic 10)

Rhode Island got on the board quick on Oliver Palmer's solo home run in the bottom of the first with Fordham coming right back with a run in the top of the second. With McCrann on second after being hit by a pitch and moving over on a passed ball, Mike Mobbs' grounder was over thrown by Rhode Island shortstop Dan Rhault and allowed McCrann to score on the errant throw.

Another Rhode Island home run, this time a two-run shot by Zoey Angulo in the bottom of the second, capped off a three-run URI inning to bring the score to 4-1.

McCrann gave Fordham the lead with with a solo shot to left-center field in the fourth while the senior smashed his second home run of the game, third of the season, in the top of the sixth with his three-run blast putting Fordham up, 5-4.

The Fordham bats were not done in the sixth as they tacked on one more run for four total runs in the inning to extend the Fordham lead to 6-4. Fordham got that run with Nick Martinez's double to the right-center gap putting him in scoring position for Mike Mobbs to single him in with a base hit to right.

Mack had a rough go of things in the first two innings on the mound, but settled down, giving up only three hits in the last seven innings pitched en route to his third complete game and fifth win of the season.

Mack's success was also due to some help in the field as Danny Leach's diving stop in the top of the eighth turned what would have been a one-out extra base hit into a key out.

McCrann had a total of four RBI on his two home runs while scoring three of the six Fordham runs. Martinez went 2-3 with a run scored while Mobbs had a 2-4 day with an RBI.

Fordham will be back in action against Rhode Island on Saturday, May 2, at 1:00 PM.
