Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham baseball team kept their bats hot against the University of Dayton, but was only able to retain a lead once in the 11-9 loss with the Flyers completing the three-game sweep over the Rams.

Fordham falls to 14-27 (9-9 Atlantic 10) as Dayton improves to 29-14 (14-4 Atlantic 10).

The Flyers put two on the board in the first with the Rams answering back with a run in the bottom half of the inning to make it a 2-1 game. With runners on first and second, sophomore Chris Walker drove in Brian Kownacki from second for the lone Rams run in the inning.

The Rams tied the game, 2-2, in the third inning on yet another Walker RBI, this time bringing in Kownacki from third on a sacrifice fly to center.

Dayton tacked on two more runs in the top of the fourth, but the Rams answered right back with three in the bottom end of the frame to take their only lead of the game, 5-4. Nick Martinez and Alex Kenny led off the inning with back-to-back infield singles as Martinez found his way to third on a fielder's choice. Another fielder's choice brought home Martinez while Bobby DiNardo smashed his second two-run home run in as many days to cap off the Rams' scoring in the inning.

Dayton's Cole Tyrell led off the fifth with a home run to center to highlight three Flyers runs while the Rams were able to score once in the bottom of the fifth with Martinez knocking home Walker on a sacrifice fly to left.

Two, two-out runs in the sixth helped Dayton push their lead to 9-6 though the Rams would get those two runs right back in the bottom of the sixth. With runners on first and third, Ryan McCrann reached on a fielder's choice that would allow Kownacki to score from third. Walker then drove in his third and final RBI of the game with a double in the right-center gap, scoring McCrann from first.

Once again the Flyers and the Rams exchanged runs in the seventh inning with Danny Leach's sixth double of the year bringing in Martinez from first to make it a 10-9 ball game.

But in the end, it was the Dayton offence that would out last the Rams with one unanswered run in the top of the ninth giving Chuck Ghysels some breathing room to record his first save of the year.

Fordham starter John Flanagan went 5.2 innings, giving up nine runs, six earned, on seven hits, seven walks while striking out three. Dayton threw three pitchers for three innings each as it was reliever Sean Finn who picked up the win, though giving up the bulk of the Fordham runs with six earned on six hits and one walk.

Walker paced the Fordham bats, going 3-4 with three RBI and a run scored. McCrann also had a three hit game with a run and an RBI as Martinez and DiNardo each had two hits.

The Rams will now hit the road with a game against Manhattan College on Tuesday, April 28th starting at 3:30 PM as they will then continue Atlantic 10 play with the start of a three-game series against the University of Rhode Island on Friday, May 1.
