Clearwater, Fla. -
In what was the theme of the Rams' stay at the USF/Under Armour Invitational, Fordham was once again locked in a pitcher's duel on Sunday against Boston University. This time however, Fordham came out on the short end, falling 1-0, at the Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater, Fla.
With the Loss, Fordham finishes at 3-2 for the tournament and is now 8-8 overall.
Both team had chances throughout the contest to score, as the teams left eight runners on base each. The starting pitching was the story, as BU's Cassidi Hardy and Fordham's Chelsea Plimpton put up zeroes on the scoreboard over the first four innings.
Fordham just missed scoring in the bottom of the fifth, as Melissa Andrews hit a line drive off the first baseman's glove for a double down the right field line. Two outs later, Mary Beth Puccio drew a walk, bringing Samantha Pellechio to the plate. Pellechio would hit a deep drive to center but it would be caught at the wall, keeping the game scoreless.
In the sixth, Boston cracked the scoreboard on an RBI-single by Emily Roesch, scoring Rachel Hebert from second. Hebert originally reached on a single and was sacrificed to second.
The rams last scoring chance was in the bottom of the sixth, as Erin Fisher walked and stole second with two outs. Pinch hitter Megan Waldron then came to the plate, and ripped two foul balls that just missed the chalk line, which would have tied the game. Waldron however would pop out to second to end the inning.
Beckah Wiggins (4-4) took the loss in relief, allowing one run on four hits, while starter Chelsea Plimpton threw the first 4 1/3 innings, allowing six hits and striking out two. At the plate, Melissa Andrews was 2-for-3 with a stolen base.
