With the not so nice weather conditions hitting the New York City area on Sunday, the Fordham Rams got two stellar pitching performances from Jen Mineau, who struck out a combined 14 batters in a softball doubleheader sweep of the George Washington Colonials. Final scores were 6-1 in game one and 4-2 in game two.
With the sweep, Fordham improves to 22-12 on the year, 4-2 in the Atlantic 10, while George Washington drops to 8-17 overall, 1-3 in the league.
In game one, Mary Beth Puccio had two hits, including her second home run of the season, and drove in four runs, as Fordham won the opener by a 6-1 count.
George Washington struck first in the top of the third, as with two on, Katie Terrazas hit a ground ball to second that was misplayed, allowing Krissy Mackiewicz to score from third.

Lindsey Kay Bright, who reached on a bunt single.
Fordham increased their lead to 6-1 in the fifth with a four-run rally. Megan Waldron started things with a walk and was pinch run for by Jessica Richards. After a ground out advanced Richards, Meghan Shager singled to right and advanced to second on the throw with Richards going to third. Melissa Andrews then walked to load the bases. Bright then reached base on a catcher's interference call, allowing Richards to score. Puccio then ripped a two-run single to right, scoring Shager and Andrews. Samantha Pellechio capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly to score Bright.
Mineau (11-7) kept the Colonial bats at bay, throwing 4 2/3 innings of one-hit relief, striking out five. Starter Chelsea Plimpton went the first 2 1/3 innings allowing one unearned run on four hits with two strikeouts. At the plate, Puccio was 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBI, while Shager was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
In game two, Mineau struck out nine batters, while Weckenman and Andrews each had a pair of hits, as Fordham completed the sweep with a 4-2 victory.
The Colonials again got out to the early lead with a two-run first inning, as Terrazas hit a two-run home run to left center, her second of the year, to score Tori Sensi, who reached on an error.
Fordham then battled their way back, scoring once in the second inning, to cut the lead in half. With one on and one out, Weckenman singled to right, moving Waldron to third. Shager then singled to center to score Waldron.
The Rams then grabbed a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth. Weckenman opened the frame with a single, while Shager reached on an error. After a walk to pinch-hitter Maggie Seidel loaded the bases, Andrews was hit by a pitch to force in Weckenman. Shager then later scored on a passed ball.
Fordham got another run in the bottom of the sxith to increase their lead to 4-2. Andrews singled to center with two outs, stole second, and scored on an error.
Mineau (12-7) was again at the top of her game, allowing just one earned run on four hits in seven innings of work, while striking out nine batters. At the plate, Andrews was 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Weckenman also had two hits.
The Fordham softball team will next be in action on Wednesday, April 1st, as they play a doubleheader at St. John's, beginning at 3:00 PM.
