Box Score

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Fordham baseball team (6-13) trailed the Stony Brook Seawolves (6-8) up until the top of the sixth inning, when the Rams brought in five runs to take a 10-7 lead. But the Seawolves would be the come-back kids in this game, scoring four runs in the bottom of the eighth to help lift Stony Brook over Fordham, 11-10.

Fordham reliever Chris Kaible picks up the loss with one inning pitched while giving up one run on two hits. Stony Brook's Matt Harloff improves to 2-0 on the season, pitching three complete innings while giving up five runs on five hits.

At the plate, Ryan McCrann knocked in three runs on two hits while scoring once as Brian Kownacki went 2-5 with two RBI and three runs scored. Stephen McSherry, Ryan Maghini and John Kahn also had multi-hit games.

Stony Brook got on the board in the bottom of the second with a single and double to put runners on second and third with one out. Fordham starting pitcher, Daniel Munday, then balked to bring the first run in and move Rob Dryer to third as he would later score on an error.

Munday was not out of the jam as he issued two straight walks to load the bases and another base-on-balls to bring home the third Stony Brook run. The Seawolves added one more run before all was said and done to give them the early 4-0 lead.

The Rams got three runs right back, in the top of the third, as Maghini started things off by reaching on catcher's interference and Kahn's single to right moved Maghini to second. A double-steal put Maghini and Kahn on third and second, respectively, for Kownacki to single them both in.

Ryan McCrann kept things going with a single to center, putting Kownacki on third, as he was running on the pitch. An infield single from Alex Kenny plated Kownacki to bring Fordham down only one run.

With runners on the corners in the bottom of the third, the Seahawolves' Steve Marzzuco singled to right, bringing in Nick Thode from third. Stony Brook added another run in the bottom of the fourth to extend their lead to 6-3.

Senior Ryan McCrann stepped to the plate in the top of the fifth and, with Kownacki on second, belted his first homerun of the season to right-center to pull the Rams to within one.

Stony Brook added one more in the fifth before the Rams took the lead with five runs in the top of the six to make it a 10-7 ballgame. Singles from McSherry, Maghini and Kahn started off the rally. Kownacki brought two runs home and ended up on second base with a bases-loaded ground ball that was misplayed by Stony Brook second baseman Chad Marshall. That error also brought Danny Leach to third as he would later score on a sacrifice fly off of the bat of Ryan David. A McCrann grounder to second was deep enough to plate Kownacki, who was now on third from David's sacrifice, for the fifth Rams' run of the inning.

Fordham held that lead, until the bottom of the eighth, when Stony Brook plated four runners to regain the lead for good. Freshman Nick Martinez gave up a run and left runners on first and second and no out for Kaible. A sacrifice bunt by Thode moved the runners to second and third for Michael Tansey's double down the left-field line, scoring both runners. Tansey would later come in on a single to right by Rob Dryer to score the winning run. Jeremy Novak came in for the bottom ninth, giving up only one hit to earn his second save on the season.

The Rams will now host the University of Massachusetts for a three-game home series, starting on Friday, March 27, at 3:00 PM.
