Charlotte, N.C. - The Fordham baseball team (5-12) fell to the Charlotte 49ers (12-5), 12-3, in game two of the three-game series as both teams move to 1-1 in Atlantic 10 play.

Danny Leach started things off for the Rams in the bottom of the first, battling at the plate to take the tenth pitch of the at bat to the left-center gap for a double. Mike Mobbs and Bobby DiNardo ground balls to the right side did the job to bring Leach home.

The Rams bats would not stop there as they tacked on two more runs in the inning to get the early 3-0 lead. Angelo Ponte drew a two-out walk and was moved to second on a single to right by Ryan McCrann. Both runners were brought home by the Rams' second double of the inning, this time off the swing of Alex Kenny.

Charlotte got all three runs back, in the bottom half of the frame, with a little help of the shaky Fordham defense. A Nick Martinez throwing error put lead-off man Justin Wilson on second as he would move to third on a ground ball. Leach's miscue on a hard-hit ball by Grant Bomann brought in Wilson. The 49ers brought home two more runners with a double to left by Alan Parks and a single to right by Aaron Bray to notched the game, 3-3.

Starting pitcher Max Krakowiak ran into a bit of trouble in the bottom of the second, walking the first two batters of the inning and then giving up a single to right, bringing in Shaylor from second to give the 49ers a 4-3 lead. One more walk would load the bases with one out, but Krakowiak settled down, getting Parks to pop out to third and striking out Ryan Rivers to end the inning.

The 49ers added two more runs in the top of the fourth on Rivers' two-run homerun to center while putting five more runs on the board in the bottom of the fifth on three hits, two walks, one hit batter and three Fordham errors.

Charlotte brought one final runner across the plate in the bottom of the sixth as Shane Brown's double to left-center brought home Corey Shaylor from second.

Joe Yermal earned his fourth win of the year by holding the Rams scoreless after giving up three first-inning runs to go 7.2 innings while surrendering seven hits, three walks and striking out one. Shane Brown led the 49ers with three hits and three RBI.

Max Krakowiak takes the loss to go 0-4 on the season on his four innings of work, giving up eight runs, four earned, on six hits, five walks while striking out five. Greg Dimmling and Nick Martinez each provided one full inning of relief work without giving up a run.

Ryan McCrann and Danny Leach each had two hits, one run scored and a double while Alex Kenny had two RBI with Bobby DiNardo knocking in the other Fordham run.

The Rams will take on the 49ers one more time on Sunday, March 22, at 12:00 PM.
