Pellechio & Andrews Lead Softball To 11-2 Win Over Mt. St. Mary's

College Park, Md. - Being in one and two-run games last week in Florida, it was just a matter of time before the Fordham softball bats began to hit their stride. On Friday night, the bats connected early and often, as Samantha Pellechio and Melissa Andrews each had three hits, as Fordham topped Mt. St. Mary's, 11-2, at the Maryland Invitational in College Park, Maryland.

With the win, Fordham improves to 11-8 overall, while the Mountaineers dropped to 2-10.

Fordham wasted no time on offense, sending ten batters to the plate in the first inning and picking up six runs on six hits. Melissa Andrews got things started with a triple to right center, and scored on a bunt single by Lindsey Kay Bright. After a pop out, Samantha Pellechio doubled to right center to score Bright. Erin Fisher then reached on an infield single, putting runners at first and third. Fisher though would be caught stealing for the second out of the inning.

The Rams then loaded the bases on a walk to Jocelyn Dearborn, while Jessica Weckenman was hit by a pitch. Beckah Wiggins then ripped an RBI-single through the left side to score Pellechio. Meghan Shager kept the inning going with a walk to force in Dearborn from third. Andrews then capped the frame with a two-run single, scoring Wiggins and Weckenman.

Fordham extended the lead to 8-0 in the bottom of the second, as Bright led off with a walk, followed by an infield single for Puccio. Pellechio then ripped her second double of the game, this time to left center, scoring both runners.

The Mountaineers got two runs back in the top of third inning to cut the Fordham lead to 8-2. Taylor Beebe led off with a double to right, followed by a walk to Lisa Curreri. Amanda Burk then doubled down the left field line, scoring Beebe. Beth Everist then singled up the middle to score Curreri.

Fordham responded with three runs in the bottom half of the frame to take an 11-2 lead. The Rams loaded the bases with one out on singles by Shager and Andrews, and a walk to Bright. Shager then scored the first run of the inning on a wild pitch. After a walk to Puccio, Pellechio ripped another shot off the wall, scoring Andrews and Bright.

Wiggins (5-4) would be in control over her four innings of work, allowing two runs on four hits, while Chelsea Plimpton pitched a scoreless fifth inning. At the plate, Pellechio was 3-for-3 with two doubles and five RBI, extending her current hitting streak to five games, while Andrews was 3-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored and two RBI. Wiggins also had two hits and an RBI in the game, while Bright scored three runs.

The Rams will be back in action at the Maryland Invitational on Saturday, March 14th with a pair of games. They will face Howard at 11:00 AM and then host Maryland at 3:00 PM.
