Bronx, N.Y. - In the 25th anniversary season of Fordham softball, there was a special feel in the air for today's opening home doubleheader against St. Peter's, and it wasn't the 40-degree temperatures. In game two of the doubleheader, Fordham's Jen Mineau threw the second ever perfect game in Fordham softball history, as she struck out a season-high 12 batters in a 9-0 victory over the Peahens to complete a doubleheader sweep.

The only other perfect game/no-hitter thrown at Fordham took place April 27, 2003, when Michelle Schlichtig also threw a five-inning perfect game in a 12-0 win at George Washington.

Mineau (5-4) was dominant throughout the contest, striking out the side in the first, third and fifth innings, and getting Ariana Payan to strike out looking for the final out of the game. Other than the 12 strikeouts, the Peahens only had a ground out to Mineau and a pop up to catcher Maggie Seidel in the second, and a ground out to Jo Krasnisky at second base.

The Rams' offense gave her plenty of support, scoring three times in the first, twice in the third, and four times in the fourth. In the first, Melissa Andrews led off the game with a solo home run to center, her second of the season. Later in the frame, Fordham got an RBI-triple by Jocelyn Dearborn and an RBI-double by Erin Fisher to jet out to a 3-0 lead.

In the third, Andrews struck again with a two-run single, scoring Erin Fisher and Megan Waldron, who reached on a walk and an infield single, respectively.

Fordham then put the game away in the fourth, as Fisher and Krasnisky both connected for two-run home runs to give the Rams a 9-0 lead. It was Fisher's third overall and second of the afternoon, while being the first collegiate home run for Krasnisky.

Overall at the plate, Andrews was 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI, while Fisher was 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBI.

Earlier in the day, Chelsea Plimpton threw 3 2/3 innings of four-hit relief, while Mary Beth Puccio and Jessica Weckenman each drove in two runs, as the Rams won by a 6-4 count over St. Peter's.

Fordham jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI-single by Puccio and a two-run single by Weckenman. St. Peter's however got those three runs back in the second, as they loaded the bases and scored on a walk, a wild pitch and a hit by pitch, which would end starter Beckah Wiggins' day early.

The Peahens then grabbed a 4-3 lead on a solo home run by Samantha Bennett off Fordham reliever Juanita Gonzalez in the third inning.

Fordham regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth, scoring a pair of runs. With two outs, Andrews got on with an infield single and stole second. Puccio then singled home Andrews to tie the game at four. Later in the inning, Puccio would score on a wild pitch after moving to third on a single by Samantha Pellechio.

The Rams then got an insurance run in the fifth, as Fisher crushed a solo home run to center field for a 6-4 lead.

In the seventh, St. Peter's threatened to tie the game with two on and two outs, but Mineau would come in and get the final out for her second save of the season.

Chelsea Plimpton (1-0) got the win, as she struck out three and allowed just four hits in 3 2/3 innings of work. At the plate, Pellechio was 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, while Puccio and Andrews each had two hits and two runs scored.

The Fordham softball team will next be in action on Friday, March 13th, as they open play at the Maryland Invitational in College Park, Md., against Mt. St. Mary's at 7:00 PM.
