Cathedral City, Calif. -
Any team can catch the breaks one day and have them go the other way the following day. That proved true for the Fordham softball team on Saturday, as the Rams committed three errors in an 8-4 loss to Boise State, while managing just five hits in a 2-1 loss to UC Davis at the Cathedral City Kickoff in California.
With the two loss, Fordham is now 2-2 on the season, while Boise State improved to 1-2 overall and UC Davis went to 2-0.

Fordham opened the scoring immediately in the top of the first, as with one out, Lindsey Bright reached on an infield single and stole second. Samantha Pellechio then ripped a singled up the middle to score Bright. Boise State then tied the game at one in the bottom of the second on an RBI-single by Megan Suitos.
The Rams regained the lead in the top of the third, as Jocelyn Dearborn connected for a solo home run to center, her second of the season.
Boise State then grabbed a 3-2 lead with the long ball, as Kathy Cox hit a two-run home run to right, her first of the season. Fordham came right back to tie the game in the top of the fifth, as with two outs, Melissa Andrews, who reached on a fielder's choice stole second and scored on a single by Bright.
The Broncos however would get three unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 6-3 lead, as they took advantage of two Fordham errors, and then boosted the lead to 8-3 with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
The Rams tried to put together another late inning rally, as Dearborn recorded an RBI-single to make it, 8-4, but that was as close as Fordham would get.
Beckah Wiggins (1-1) took the loss, throwing 4 2/3 innings, allowing three earned runs with six strikeouts. At the plate, Lindsey Bright was 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Jocelyn Dearborn was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.
In game two, UC Davis' Jessica Hancock held the Rams to just five hits over seven innings, while striking out ten batters, as the Aggies took a 2-1 decision from the Rams.
The game was a pitcher's duel between Hancock and Fordham's Jen Mineau with both pitchers allowing just one hit each over the first three innings.
The Aggies then broke through on the scoreboard first, as Belinda Paine led off the bottom of the fourth with a single up the middle. One out later, Rachel Miller cracked a two-run home run to left center, her first off the season.
The score stayed at 2-0 until the top of the seventh, where Fordham tried to put together a late rally. Dearborn started the inning with a single, followed by a line drive single by Pellechio down the third base line. After Sarah Campbell came in to pinch run for Pellechio and a Fordham strikeout, Erin Fisher singled up the middle to score Dearborn from second to make it a 2-1 game with runners at first and second.
Wiggins then looped a single down the left field line, with Campbell trying to score from second, but was thrown out at the plate by leftfielder Jenny Corbett for the second out of the inning. The Rams still however had runners at second and third for pinch hitter Mary Beth Puccio, but Puccio would ground out to third to end the game.
Mineau (1-1) took the loss, allowing two runs on three hits with five strikeouts, while Juanita Gonzalez pitched a scoreless inning of relief. At the plate, Erin Fisher was 1-for-3 with an RBI to lead Fordham.
