Greenville, N.C. - With weather playing havoc with games throughout the mid-Atlantic, the Fordham softball team got both of their games in on Friday, shutting out Delaware, 1-0, while falling to East Carolina, 2-1, in ten innings, in Greenville, N.C.

In the first game of the day, Fordham's Beckah Wiggins threw a complete game two-hit shutout, while Erin Fisher singled home the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth, as the Rams shutout the Blue Hens, 1-0, at ECU Softball Field.

The game was a pitcher's duel between Fordham's Beckah Wiggins and Delaware's Amanda Stacevicz, as both pitcher's allowed just one hit over the first 5 ½ innings, before Fordham finally cracked the scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth.

In the sixth, Samantha Pellechio reached on an infield single with one out, and was pinch run for by Jo Krasnisky. Mary Beth Puccio followed with a double to center, but Kranisky was thrown out at home for the second out of the inning. Puccio, who went to third on the throw home, then scored on an RBI-single by Erin Fisher to make it, 1-0.

Delaware would threaten in the seventh, as the Blue Hens got runners at second and third with two outs. Wiggins though got pinch-hitter Kenney to ground out to second to end the game, giving Fordham the shutout win.

Wiggins (2-3) threw her third career shutout, allowing just two hits and three walks in the game, while striking out two. At the plate, Erin Fisher was 1-for-1 with two walks and two stolen bases, while Mary Beth Puccio was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Lindsey Kay Bright also recorded two stolen bases in the game.

In game two, ECU picked up a run in the bottom of the tenth inning off a Fordham error to take a 2-1 decision from the Rams.

Much like the first game, offense was at a premium, as the game went scoreless into extra innings due to the pitching efforts of Fordham's Jen Mineau and East Carolina's Toni Paisley.

In the top of the eighth, Fordham (5-6) pushed across the first run of the ballgame. With Jessica Richards placed on second due to the international tie breaker rule, Megan Waldron grounded out, which moved Richards to third. After a strikeout, Meghan Shager plated Richards with an RBI-single to right.

In the bottom half of the inning, ECU (9-5) tied the game at one, and almost won the game, if not for Melissa Andrews. With the bases loaded, Marina Gusman-Brown singled home Jillian Gallagher, but Christina Merrida was thrown out at home by Andrews to keep score tied at one.

After Fordham failed to score in the ninth, ECU tried to win the game with a runner on third and one out, but Mineau posted back-to-back strikeouts to end the threat, sending the game to the tenth.

The Pirates however finally put across the game-winning run in the bottom of the tenth. With Biblee placed on second, Paisley hit a ground ball to third, where Jocelyn Dearborn's throw went errant, allowing Biblee to score and end the game. Mineau (3-3) was the hard luck loser, allowing two unearned runs over nine plus innings, while striking out nine. At the plate, Shager was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Fordham is scheduled to play on Saturday, Febraury 28th against Towson, but check the Fordham athletics website for up to date weather updates, which may change the game schedule.
