Women's Soccer Posts 2-0 Shutout of St. Bonaventure

St. Bonaventure, N.Y. - Still playing for seeding at next week's Atlantic 10 Championship, the Fordham women's soccer team got a late first half goal by Katherine Wah, as well as a tally from Leah Loguidice in the second half, to earn a 2-0 win over the St. Bonaventure Bonnies at McGraw-Jennings Field.

With the win, Fordham ends the regular season at 8-11-1 overall, 7-4 in Atlantic 10 play, while St. Bonaventure ended their regular season at 10-10 overall, 7-4 in conference play. By virtue of the win today, Fordham earned the tiebreaker over St. Bonaventure for the #3 seed at the Atlantic 10 Championship, while St. Bonaventure will be the #4 seed.

The Rams got on the board with just under two minutes remaining in the first half on Katherine Wah's frst goal of the season. With Bonnies keeper Nicole Markert coming out of net, Fordham's Megan Cookson found Wah wide open with an empty net in front of her to make it 1-0.

The opening minutes of the second half saw the Bonnies try to get the equalizer on shot by Tori Burchett, but it rang off the crossbar, keeping Fordham ahead.

With St. Bonaventure unable to find the back of the net, the Rams tacked on an insurance goal at the 54:16 mark, when Leah Loguidice's shot from the top of the goal box found the right corner of the net for a 2-0 Fordham lead. It was her team-leading sixth goal of the season.

St. Bonaventure tried to get back in the game over the final 35 minutes, but to no avail. The Bonnies best chance came from Anna Cunningham, who hit the post in the 70th minute.

For the game, Fordham held a slight 11-10 shot advantage. Markert made five saves in the game, while Fordham's Rachel Suther had three saves for third shutout of the season.

The Fordham women's soccer team will now get ready for the 2009 Atlantic 10 Championship, November 5th through 8th in Charlotte, N.C. Third-seeded Fordham will play sixth-seeded Massachusetts at 8:00 PM on Thursday, November 5th, following the St. Bonaventure-Saint Louis match-up at 5:30 PM. Dayton and Charlotte are the top two seeds at the Championship and will receive opening round byes.
