Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham-Temple men's soccer match was an extremely physical affair featuring six cards over 110:00 minutes of play. However, neither team was able to crack the scoreboard, playing to a scoreless 0-0 tie at Jack Coffey Field on Sunday.

With the tie, Fordham did clinch a spot in the 2009 Atlantic 10 Championship, as the team moved to 8-6-3 overall, 5-1-2 in the Atlantic 10. The Rams though did relinquish the top spot in the league as Dayton won today giving the Flyers 18 points, one more than Fordham, heading into the final week of competition.

Temple (8-6-2, 3-3-1) relied on their goalkeeper Bret Mollon early in the match, stopping shots from Aaron Markowitz and Tim Richardson over the first 13 minutes.

It was then Ryan Meara's turn for Fordham, as he made saves on Temple's J.T. Noone and Rodrigo Zuleta to keep the game without a score through the 24th minute.

Mollon would be called upon four more times in the opening frame to keep Fordham off the sheet, including one from Veer Lakhan-Joseph in the final seconds of the first half.

The second half action then revolved around five issued cards, the most significant being a red card to Fordham's Sam Jolly in the 83rd minute, meaning Fordham would have to play a man down for the rest of the game.

Temple then pressed the man advantage into overtime, outshooting Fordham 6-1 in the extra 20 minutes, but was unable to score.

In net, Mollon made eight saves for the Owls, earning his sixth shutout of the season, while Meara recorded five saves in his seventh shutout of the year.

The Fordham men's soccer team will next be in action on Sunday, November 8th, when they host La Salle University on Senior Day, beginning at 1:00 PM on Jack Coffey Field.
