Looking to extend their win streak to five matches, the Fordham volleyball team ran into a tough draw on Friday against the 24th-ranked Saint Louis Billikens. The Billikens then proceeded to sweep the Rams in three sets, 25-15, 25-18, and 25-20.
The loss snaps Fordham's four-match win streak, as the Rams fall to 12-16 overall, 2-8 in the conference, while Saint Louis improved to 17-6 overall, 10-1 in league play.
Saint Louis got out to big leads early in the first two sets, cruising to 10-point and seven-point set wins. The Billikens hit .379 in the first set, while connecting for a .327 percentage in set two.
Fordham hung around in the third set, closing within one, 12-11, following a pair of Billiken errors. Saint Louis however went on a 7-2 run to pull out to a 19-13 lead, eventually winning by five.
For Fordham, Katherine Burrell posted a double-double with 16 assists and 16 digs, while Sara Friede added eight kills and 10 digs. Burrell continued her march up the Fordham record book, as she moved into second place on the Rams' career assists list at 3,606, passing Kealia Ieremia (3,600). She also moved into sixth on the career digs list at 941.
The Fordham volleyball team will next be in action on Sunday, November 1st, as they host Charlotte in the Rose Hill Gym, beginning at 2:00 PM.
