Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham women's soccer team came out with a strong effort on Friday against the University of Dayton Flyers, but a goal late in each half by the Flyers gave them a 2-0 victory over the Rams.

With the loss, Fordham falls to 2-9-1 overall, 1-2 in the Atlantic 10, while Dayton remained unbeaten at 7-0-4 overall, 3-0 in league play.

Fordham had two excellent scoring chances in the first half. Courtney Fedge had the first shot in the 12th minute, which went to the top corner but was grabbed by Dayton goalkeeper Katherine Boone.

The next opportunity saw Brittany Hogan go one-on-one with Boone on the left side of the goal in the 35th minute, with Boone just getting a piece of the ball, and pushing it over the crossbar.

However, Dayton cracked the scoreboard first in the 42nd minute, just before the half ended. Lauren MacCormick chipped a cross to the left side to Alysha Mallon, with Fordham goalkeeper Rachel Suther coming out to challenge Mallon. Mallon then chipped the ball toward the far post, netting the opening goal of the contest.

The score stayed that way until the 73rd minute, where Dayton increased their lead to 2-0. After an offside call was waved off, Jerica DeWolfe picked up a deflected ball and went in alone from 20 yards, beating Suther for the two-goal edge, which would be the final margin.

Boone made three saves for her seventh shutout of the season, while Suther had one save for Fordham.

The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Sunday, October 4th, when they host the Xavier Musketeers at 1:00 PM at Jack Coffey Field.
