10/18/09 - Highlights vs. Temple
Bronx, N.Y. -
In a game played under windy, wet and cold conditions, the Fordham women's soccer team didn't let the elements affect them as the Rams shut out Temple, 2-0, in an Atlantic 10 match on Jack Coffey Field.
With the win, Fordham's third straight and second consecutive shut out, Fordham improves to 6-10-1 overall, 5-3 in the Atlantic 10, while Temple falls to 5-10-1 overall, 1-7 in the conference.
Despite the shots being relatively equal in the first half (the Rams held a 6-4 advantage), it was Fordham who had the better scoring chances, capitalizing on two of them.
Fordham got on the board early as Leah Loguidice picked up her team-leading fifth goal of the year in the 15th minute.
The Rams had a couple additional scoring opportunities, the first coming with 20 minutes left in the half when Loguidice put the ball in the net from 20 yards but was ruled off sides.
Seven minutes later, Michelle Ancelj crossed a ball from the end line into the box and Danielle Ingram jumped on a loose ball, getting off a blast from 30 yards that was just right of the goal.
With four minutes remaining in the half, Katie McDermott got off a shot off following a corner kick that was blocked by a Temple defender and cleared.
But the Rams would pick up their second goal of the game just before the break as Ancelj sent a pass to Brittany Hogan, sending Hogan in from the right side and Hogan tucked a shot to the far post that beat Temple keeper Kara Williams from 20 yards for her second tally of the year with 43 seconds left before the half.
The weather improved a bit in the second half but that didn't translate to scoring chances on the field until late in the game and both of those came from the foot of a Ram.
With just over nine minutes left, Loguidice broke in alone and got off a shot from 12 yards that an onrushing Williams was able to deflect over the cross bar. Then, with 2:30 remaining, Hogan nailed a shot from 20 yards that beat Williams but banged off the cross bar and away.
Sarah Zieman made three saves in recording her second straight shut out of the year while Williams finished with two saves in the Temple net.
The Rams will next be in action next Friday, October 23rd, as they host La Salle University in an Atlantic 10 match at 7:00 p.m.
