Bronx, N.Y. - For the past two games the Fordham men's soccer squad required some last minute heroics to pull out a win. That was not the case today as the Rams jumped out to a 2-0 lead midway through the first half and went on to win their fifth straight win, a 2-0 Atlantic 10 decision over George Washington on a cold, windy and wet Jack Coffey Field.

With the win, the Rams improve to 7-5-1 overall, a perfect 4-0 in the Atlantic 10 as the Rams win their first four conference games for the first time since joining the conference in 1995 (the last time the Rams started a conference season 4-0 was 1988 when Fordham was a member of the MAAC). George Washington falls to 7-6 overall, 1-3 in the conference.

The Colonials had the first scoring chance as Luke Wildly took a shot from 30 yards that Fordham keeper Ryan Meara was able to deflect away in the 16th minute.

Four minutes later the Rams got on the board as Aaron Markowitz collected a stray George Washington pass and went on Colonial keeper Erik Haug all alone, beating the keeper on the ground to the far post from 25 yards for his first goal of the year.

In the 25th minute, the Rams took a 2-0 lead when Alex Brunbauer fed Tim Richardson in on the left side and Richardson got off a shot that deflected off a George Washington defender and over Haug's head into the net. The goal was Richardson's team-leading fourth of the year.

Richardson almost made it a 3-0 game for the Rams as he got off a blast from 30 yards with ten minutes left in the half but Haug was able to make a diving save.

The Colonials had a chance to get on the board with six minutes left in the first half when a Seth Rudolph shot was saved by Meara.

The Rams kept the pressure on in the second half, outshooting George Washington 6-0 and having some quality scoring chances. With 23 minutes remaining, Louis Vigliotti took a shot that Haug saved and the rebound came right to the foot of D.J. Corrao in front of the net but Haug was able to recover and block Corrao's shot to keep it a 2-0 game.

Lees than a minute later, Vigliotti had another opportunity as he took a shot from the top of the box that just sailed over the cross bar.

The Rams had one last chance to pick up another goal with 6:30 remaining but a John Niyonsaba bullet from 20 yards clanked off the cross bar.

Meara finished with two saves in net for the Rams as he picks up his fifth shut out this year. Haug recorded three saves for George Washington.

The Rams will next be in action next Friday, October 23rd, as they travel to St. Louis, Missouri, to face the St. Louis University Billikens in an Atlantic 10 match at 8:00 PM (EST).
