Bronx, N.Y. -
With a dominant second half performance and Annie Worden's fourth goal of the season, the Fordham women's soccer passed the .500 mark in conference play with a 1-0 victory over Saint Joseph's at Jack Coffey Field on Friday.
With the win, Fordham improves to 4-3 in Atlantic 10 play, 5-10-1 overall, while Saint Joseph's falls to 6-6-2 overall, 3-3-1 in league play.
After a scoreless first half, the Rams put on all sorts of pressure in the second half, outshooting the Hawks 10-0 in the frame, with most of the action in the Saint Joseph's end.
Fordham finally cracked the scoreless affair at the 67:40 mark, as Annie Worden netted her team leading fourth goal of the season. Mariella Romano started the play with a cross from the right side of the box to Katie McDermott. McDermott then played a quick pass in front, which Worden headed home for the only goal of the game.
In net, Fordham's
Sarah Zieman made her first career start, making two saves in the shutout effort. She joins fellow freshman goalkeeper
Rachel Suther, as the only freshmen goalies in Fordham women's soccer history to record a shutout in their first career start. Suther did it earlier this season at Army. For Saint Joseph's, Christine Neal made four saves in net.
The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Sunday, October 18th, as they host Temple University at noon on Jack Coffey Field in the first game of a soccer doubleheader.
