Bronx, N.Y. - With three players scoring in double-digit figures and one with a double-double, the Fordham women's basketball team was just three points short of its first Atlantic 10 win of the season as George Washington squeaked past the Rams, 55-52.
Fordham falls to 7-11 (0-3 Atlantic 10) as George Washington improves to 9-8 (2-1 Atlantic 10).
The match-up between the Rams and the Colonials was a hard fought 40 minutes in a game that featured 11 lead changes and 12 tied scores. With 3:06 remaining in the game, Fordham found itself down 47-49 until Becky Peters took an inbound pass from Annie Zopf underneath the net and put down a layup that tied the score 49-49.
Two free-throws from George Washington's Tiana Myers gave the Colonials another two-point lead, but Peters notched the game, once again, with a jumper just moments before the shot clock expired to put the game at 51-51 with 2:16 remaining.
Jessica Adair bucketed two of her game-leading 21 points with 1:17 left to go to bring the Colonials back to a two point lead. Randall Hurst cut that lead to within one with a free-throw with 12 seconds left, but would see two free-throws from Yolanda Lavender fall through to put the Colonials up 55-52. The Rams had a chance to tie the game, but a last second three from senior Zopf hit off the rim and landed out of bounds to end the game.
In the first-half, Fordham came out strong with an early 8-6 lead off of three of Randall Hursts' nine first-half points. That lead would be short lived as Adair hit her third straight basket to tie the score 8-8 with 14:09 remaining in the half.
After a few lead changes, Fordham was down 12-15 until Peters took over, knocking down a jumper to pull the Rams within one and then hitting a trey from the corner on Fordham's next possession to give the Rams the lead, 17-15.
A Colonial basket tied the game, once again, but Hurst continued her thrilling first half with six more points to George Washington's two, bringing Fordham ahead 21-17 with 7:23 left on the clock.
Back came the Colonials, scoring the next two baskets to tie the game, 21-21. From here it was a back and forth battle that found Fordham down 31-33, until Kristina Bell turned a Kyara Weeks pass it into two points to send the game to a 33-33 tie at halftime.
Randall Hurst had a thirst for more points as she knocked down Fordham's first four points of the second-half in response to two George Washington baskets to notch the game at 37-37. Senior Annie Zopf added a basket to give Fordham its first lead of the second-half, but was responded with a 9-1 Colonial run. Antelia Parrish put down five of her seven second-half points in the run.
The Rams would not let the Colonials run away with the game as Kristina Bell put down a layup and hit a three from the top of the key to bring the Rams to within one. Takita Earl followed suit with two points to give Fordham its final lead of the game, 47-46.
Randall Hurst led all Fordham scorers with 14 points and 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. Becky Peters added 12 points and three steals while Kristina Bell contributed 11 points.
George Washington's Jessica Adair led all scorers with 21 points to go along with three blocks while Antelia Parrish added 10 points.
