Women's Basketball Taken Down By Saint Louis 64-48

St. Louis, Mo. - The Fordham women's basketball team could not contain a hot Saint Louis offense that included three players in double-digit figures as the Rams fell to to the Billikens 64-48. CBS College Sports broadcast the game nation-wide in the Rams' only scheduled television appearance of the 2008-09 season.

Fordham dropped to a 7-10 record (0-2 Atlantic 10) as Saint Louis improved to 7-10 (1-1 Atlantic 10).

Things got under way with a jumper from Saint Louis' Theresa Lisch for the first points two points of the game. The Rams responded with baskets from Annie Zopf and Randall Hurst to an early lead, 4-2.

After exchanging a few points on each end, the Billikens sprinted forward on a 10-0 run to stretch the score to 16-6, aided by Lisch draining a trey from the top of the key and returning down the court on the next possession to drop in a bucket for five of her seven first-half points. Fordham's Becky Peters was able to put a stop to the Billikens' run with two straight buckets, cutting the lead to 18-13 with 9:04 remaining.

Back came Saint Louis who ran down the court to extend its lead to nine with jumpers by Heather King and Lauren Woods to push the score to 24-15. A three-pointer by the Rams' Kristina Bell helped bring the score to within the six, but the Billikens came back with two straight buckets to make the score 28-18 with 5:04 left in the half.

From here, Fordham quietly chipped away at the Saint Louis lead with a basket by Peters while Kyara Weekes converted a three-point play to pull the Rams to within a 30-26, four point deficit. After a short run by Saint Louis, the Rams came back, yet again, to pull within two on a Peters' jumper. But with six seconds remaining, Amanda Kemezys hit two key foul shots and the half ended with the Billikens leading the Rams 35-31.

Turnovers plagued the Rams as they handed the ball over 11 times in the first-half in which St. Louis converted into 12 points.

In the second half, the first three minutes of play went scoreless until both teams went on a tear on the basket with the Rams eventually pulling to within two at 40-38 with 15:28 remaining in the game.

At this point, Saint Louis' defense held the Rams to just six points to the Billikens' 15 as Saint Louis led 55 to 44 at the 6:05 mark.

Saint Louis added a few more baskets until Tyonna Willingham broke the Rams' scoreless streak with a quick layup for her lone two points of the game to make the score 62-46 . But it was Saint Louis who pulled away in the end as each team exchanged baskets, ending the game 64-48 in favor of St. Louis

Kyara Weekes led the way for Fordham with 12 points and seven rebounds and while Becky Peters scored 11 with six boards.

Saint Louis' top scorers was led by Theresa Lisch, who score 19 as Amanda Kemezys and Heather King each scored 17 and 12, respectively.

The Fordham women's basketball team will head back to Rose Hill to host the Colonials of George Washington University on Saturday, January 17th at 1:00 PM
