Stony Brook's Brooke Barbuto broke a 1-1 tie in the 87th minute to give the Seawolves a 2-1 win over the Fordham Rams at LaValle Stadium on Sunday afternoon.  With the loss, Fordham drops to 1-1-1 on the year, while Stony Brook improves to 3-2-0.
Fordham's Katie McDermott scored the lone Fordham goal, as the Rams tied the game late in the second half. McDermott's equalizer came in the 84th minute of the game as she headed a cross from Kim Boulos just inside the left post.
Fordham fell behind early with a goal by Stony Brook's Colleen McKenna in the sixth minute of the game on a pass from Trine Allenberg. The Rams nearly tied it with a McDermott point blank shot with just over 10 minutes remaining in first half but was stopped by Stony Brook's Marisa Viola.
The Rams had good opportunities in the second half including a header from Katie Sanchez just wide in the 71st minute and again minutes later on an Alexis Ribadeneyra 20-yard strike before finally tying it on McDermott's header with 6:32 remaining.
The Rams out shot the Seawolves, 17-14, but the difference maker was Brooke Barbuto's deflection in the 87th minute.
Fordham got five shot attempts from Katie Sanchez, four from McDermott and two more from Kim Boulos but could not get another one past.
Viola made nine stops in the win, while Fordham's Jen Byer made four saves.
The Rams return to action on Friday, September 12th with a 7:00 PM contest against Marist on Jack Coffey Field.
