Box Score
Syracuse, N.Y. -
For the second straight game, opponents could not put a ball past Fordham keeper Jen Byer, as she recorded five saves in earning her second consecutive shutout to open the 2008 season. The only problem for the Fordham Rams was that they couldn't figure out Syracuse keeper Eliza Hattan-Bennett either as the Rams and the Orange played to a 0-0 tie at the SU Soccer Stadium. With the tie, Fordham stands at 1-0-1 on the young season while Syracuse goes to 1-2-1.
The two teams were about equal in shots, with Syracuse holding a 7-6 advantage but it was the Orange who had more quality chances as seen in Byer's five saves.
Neither keeper was tested in the first half as neither recorded a save but the Orange came out determined in the second half, forcing Byer to make two saves in the first ten minutes. The first save came off a shot from Amanda Morris in the 53rd minute while in the 55th minute, Byer stopped a scoring attempt from Casey Ramirez.
Byer came up big again in the 83rd minute, keeping a Sara Grimsgaard shot from the net, while the Rams tested Hattan-Bennett in the 87th minute as she kept the game scoreless by denying a Katie McDermott shot.
Both squads had a chance to win the game in the second overtime but Byer kept the Orange off the scoreboard with a save of a Megan Bellingham shot in the 107th minute and, a minute later, Hattan-Bennett denied a Kim Boulos scoring opportunity as the game ended in a scoreless tie.
The Rams will next be in action on Sunday, September 7th, as they travel to Stony Brook University for a 1:00 p.m. match.
