Volleyball Improves To 5-1 With Win Over Oral Roberts

Tulsa, Okla. - In an extremely tight match, the Fordham Rams took a four-set match from host Oral Roberts at the ORU Classic in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Friday night. The Rams improved to 5-1 on the season, which is their best start since 2001, while Oral Roberts falls to 4-2.

In set one, ORU won by a close 25-23 score, as the Golden Eagles hit .389 for the set, led by Joanita Souza's five kills.

The Rams returned the favor with a 25-23 win in set two. Christi Griffiths and Jolanda Gunning-Snowden kept the Rams' attack balanced with four kills each, while Griffiths added three blocks.

Fordham picked up the third set by a 31-29 count, as there were seven lead changes and 12 tie scores in the set. With the score at 29 all, Griffiths notched a kill to give Fordham set point. The Rams then won the set on an attack error from ORU's Danijela Novakovic.

The Rams then completed the win with a 25-23 score in set four. The Rams saved their best for last, hitting .378 for the set, as Griffiths notched five kills to lead Fordham.

For Fordham, Christi Griffiths finished with 14 kills and six blocks, while Jolanda Gunning-Snowden added 13 kills and three blocks. Jenna Hart chipped in 11 kills and six digs with Kailee May adding 10 kills and seven digs. Katherine Burrell dished out 44 assists in the match to go with six digs.

The Fordham volleyball team will next be in action on Saturday, September 6th, as they wrap up play at the ORU Classic with Tulsa and North Texas at 11:00 AM and 3:30 PM Eastern, respectively.
