Hartwick's Austin McCann scored in the 93rd minute of overtime to give the Hawks a 2-1 victory over the Fordham Rams on Saturday at Elmore Field. With the loss, Fordham drops to 3-4-1 overall, while Hartwick moves to 2-3-4.
Hartwick took the lead 12:22 into the game when Nick Roydhouse found space at the left corner of the 18-yard box and swung a pass in to Dan Summers, who scored from just inside the penalty spot.
In the second half, Fordham evened the game, as Ram substitute Matt Courtenay got on the end of a Mike McTigue cross to tie the game with just 13:35 remaining in the contest. McTigue got the ball on the right sideline and sent a near-post cross into the box that found Courtenay. His header to the far post beat Hartwick goalkeeper Jeremy Vuolo and deflected in off the post for a 1-1 deadlock.
The Hawks ended the match in the overtime session as Austin McCann and John Boyle capitalized at the 92:43 mark. Boyle broke in towards goal on the right side and fed McCann from eight yards out for the game-winner.
Hartwick ended the match with an 11-9 edge in shots, while the Rams had a 5-4 edge in corner kicks. Vuolo made three saves in the Hawk goal, while Fordham goalkeeper Ryan Meara also made three saves.
The Fordham men's soccer team will next be in action on Sunday, October 5th, when they host the Bryant Bulldogs in the second half of a soccer doubleheader at Jack Coffey Field. Approximately game time start is 3:30 PM.
