Bronx, N.Y. - Down 2-0 late in the second half, the Fordham women's soccer team scored three unanswered goals, capped by Kim Boulos' fourth goal of the season in overtime, as the Rams defeated the George Washington Colonials, 3-2, in double overtime at the Mount Vernon Athletic Complex.
With the win, Fordham improves to 4-3-1 on the season, 1-0 in the Atlantic 10, while George Washington falls to 4-5-0 overall, 0-1 in the conference.
“This was a tremendous comeback effort by the team,” said head coach Ness Selmani. “They showed a lot of character the way they came back from down two goals. This team is just a bunch of winners!”
Out shooting George Washington 7-5 in the first half, the Rams found themselves down 1-0, as the Colonials scored in 42nd minute of play. Jillian Morgan scored her first of the season on a header off a Lauren Kelly corner kick.
The Colonials increased their lead to 2-0 at the 60:13 mark of the second half, as Meg Pyle scored her third of the season with the assist going to Keara Mehlert.
Fordham began their comeback in the 73rd minute, as the Rams were awarded a penalty kick. Catherine Huvane put home the penalty kick for her first career goal, cutting the Colonials' lead in half.
The Rams then continued their offensive attack, tying the game in the 86th minute. Off a free kick, Michelle Ancelj collected the ball off a scramble in the box, and scored her first goal of the season.
The game then went into overtime, where at the 101:03 mark, Fordham's Courtney Fedge found Kim Boulos for a 30-yard blast to the upper part of the net for the game-winning goal, her fourth goal overall and second game-winner of the year.
Overall, Fordham out shot the Colonials, 23-11, to go with a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks. In net, Jen Byer made one save in the win for Fordham, while George Washington's Lindsey Rowe made eight saves.
The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Sunday, September 28th, as they host Atlantic 10 opponent, the Saint Louis Billikens for a 1:00 PM contest on Jack Coffey Field.
