After a win on Friday night, the Fordham volleyball team dropped the final two matches at the Aggie Invitational on Saturday. The Rams dropped their first match to UC-Davis in four sets, while falling to Cal State Baskersfield in three. With the two losses, Fordham falls to 9-6 on the season.
In match one, Fordham fell to UC-Davis in four sets by scores of 18-25, 25-21, 25-20, and 25-16.
Despite 12 team blocks and solid performances from Christi Griffiths and Katie Wells, the Rams could not contain UC-Davis' Renee Ibekwe and Keala Peterson. Ibekwe connected for 25 kills, nine digs and a .467 hitting percentage, while Peterson had 15 kills and five digs.
For Fordham, Katie Wells had a team-high 14 kills to go with four blocks and a .500 hitting percentage, while Christi Griffiths had nine kills and seven blocks. Kailee May and Jolanda Gunning-Snowden each added eight kills with Katherine Burrell having four kills, 41 assists, 11 digs, and five blocks.
In match two, Fordham lost in straight sets to Cal State Bakersfield, 25-21, 25-21, and 25-17.
Bakersfield out hit Fordham .307 to .189, and added eight service aces in the match. Bakersfield's Sarah Norman and Lindy DeGeare were the top billing in the contest, as Norman had 19 kills with Lindy DeGeare adding a double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs.
For Fordham, Griffiths again led the way with nine kills and four blocks, while Wells had seven kills and three blocks. Sara Friede also added 12 digs defensively.
The Fordham volleyball team will now open Atlantic 10 play next weekend, as they play at La Salle on Saturday, September 27th, beginning at noon.
