The Fordham water polo Rams ventured up to Cambridge, Mass., on Saturday to face Washington and Jefferson and California Baptist at M.I.T. and the Rams came away with a split, defeating Washington & Jefferson, 13-7, and falling to California Baptist, 13-3.
In the first game of the day, Andrew Dentinger led the Rams with three goals while Tim Simo and Martin de Jong each added two as Fordham took care of the Presidents, 13-7. Andrew McKernin, J.D. Shrewsbury and Jakob Muller each added a tally for the Rams
In the California Baptist game, the Rams used goals from Todd Conway and Alex Powell to take an early 2-0 before the Lancers scored the next two goals to tie the game later in the period.
California Baptist exploded for six goals in the second quarter to build an 8-3 lead at the half. The Lancers scored the first goal of the period before Powell answered for the Rams but California Baptist then netted four unanswered goals.
Fordham went without a goal in the third quarter, despite several scoring chances with a man advantage. California Baptist did manage to convert on an extra man situation and scored an even strength goal to take a 10-3 lead after three periods.
The Rams also went scoreless in the fourth quarter while the Lancers found the back of the net three times for the 13-3 final.
Timmy Will made 11 saves in net for the Rams.
The polo Rams return to action next Saturday as they host Mercyhurst (2:00 p.m.) and Mt. San Antonio (6:40 p.m.) in the Fordham Invitational at the Francis B. Messmore Aquatics Center at Rose Hill.
